Pirate Party Welcomes German Mayor as Member
So relieving to find out from time to time some positive things about legal issues concerning P2P and the file sharing phenomenon. Here’s one – although the German Pirate Party has had a hard time trying to make P2P legal and defending privacy rights it had a recent victory through the adhering to the party of its first official elected representative in the person of Jens Knoblich, mayor of the German town of Hohenstein.
When asked about the reason why he joined the Pirate Party, Knoblich said he really appreciates the party activists not being career politicians and once he got passed the party’s somehow confusing name he liked what he saw on the agenda.
This, however is not such a considerable triumph: since The German Pirate party only got 0.3% of all votes in its first state election contest, while the second time was even less fortunate with only 0.2 % of Hamburg’s state election voters favoring it with their choice things are certainly not going to change overnight. It will take a continuous uncompromising battle to be successful in fighting against privacy violations and make P2P less doomed.
